The Heritage of the Coptic Orthodox Church (HCOC) choir was established in the summer of 2000, led by Deacon Albair Mikhail. The majority of our choir members hail from the church of the Prophet Daniel and the Three Saintly Youth in Mississauga, Canada. In addition, HCOC proudly includes members from churches across the Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, the USA, Australia, and Egypt.
The primary objective of HCOC is to safeguard the endangered oral chant heritage of Coptic hymnology. We strive to receive and meticulously record the most authentic renditions of these hymns. These recordings serve as valuable references for the education, preservation, and enrichment of individuals with an interest in historical musical heritages of indigenous communities worldwide, particularly those within the Coptic Orthodox faith.
We rigorously study and conduct extensive research and comparative analysis of Coptic hymnology under the guidance of Cantor Mikhail El-Batanouny, who serves as our principal source of knowledge alongside his disciples.
